Nepalese Progressive Rock/Metal Bands


  • Atomic Bush:
Atomic Bush was a progressive rock/metal band from Kathmandu, Nepal. The band was formed by the members of Breeding Pestilence, Ozzobozo and Elysium. Atomic Bush propelled the scene into a new and interesting frontier of progressive, virtuoso and eclectic rock and registered a win in 'Rock Heads' band competition in 2005. The founding members who were stable throughout the existence of the band, comprised of Bibhusan Basnet (lead guitar/vocal), Sunny Tuladhar(lead guitar), Rajan Shrestha(bass), Abhisek Bhadra(keys) and Alec Sciamma(drums). Though the band lost their existence over a very short period of time, their music with progressive elements are still highly appreciated, and the band is considered to be a pioneer group to aggrandize prog scene in Nepal.

The band have recorded an EP titled P Jam, which contains several instrumental tracks and a progressive ballad 'Sano Prakash'. 'Sano Prakash', with a darker lyrics content and sophisticated musical arrangements, is 7 minutes and 18 seconds long, and is considered as a breakthrough in Nepali underground prog scene.

After breaking up, some members of the band continued to make music by forming several other bands. Bibhusan Basnet and Abishek Bhadra with other members formed 'Karmavalanche'(Progressive rock instrumental band). Sunny Tuladhar, Abhisek Bhadra, Rajan Shrestha with other members formed 'Jindabad'.

  • Karmavalanche:
Karmavalanche was one of the awe-inspiring progressive rock instrumental bands in the underground scene of Nepal. Today, the band is not active but the instrumental compositions by the band is still aristocratic. The members of Karmavalanche were Bibhusan Basnet(guitar), Abhisek Bhadra(keys), Prasanna Rana (percussions), Allan Shrestha(drums)and Bob Dennis Benjamin(bass).

'Freedom in F major' is the only album released by the band which is the collection of four instrumentals, each being a mesmerizing one.
